The thrilling final installment of C.J. Redwine's Defiance trilogy, a rich post-apocalyptic YA fantasy perfect for fans of Graceling and Tamora Pierce.
Rachel has been kidnapped by enemy forces and is being taken to Rowansmark, while Logan is imprisoned in Lankenshire. Separated from each other and their Baalboden comrades, each must find a way to achieve what they desperately have been fighting for to rid their world of the Commander and the tech that controls the deadly Cursed One once and for all.
Fighting through her pain and embracing the warrior she's become, Rachel will do whatever it takes to escape and join Logan in his fight. But when she discovers a shocking secret that changes everything, she realizes that to save the people she loves, she'll have to destroy Rowansmark from the inside out—if she can survive the journey through the Wasteland.
Logan needs allies if he wants to thwart Rowansmark's power grab and rescue Rachel. But securing allies will mean enlisting the help of Commander Chase, the man he hates more than anyone. Driven by his love for Rachel and his determination to make his world safe, he may be just the weapon the city-states need to defeat the Cursed One.
But as Rowansmark bears down and uneasy alliances are tested, will the pair's love for each other be enough to surmount the unbelievable odds against them?

"This isn't a bad book, just nothing memorable or particularly exciting. I did read the trilogy because I did want to know how it all ended. She is a headstrong girl who perpetually runs into things without thinking. The boy who goes with her is more of the planner. He does verbally threatened her a couple times which I know some readers take fault with. For example she lives in a city where women have no rights. They are not allowed to travel anywhere without a male by their side. The punishment is death if this law is disobeyed. She puts a cloak on and decides to go into town by herself. The young man in charge of her after her father dies yells at her and tell her how stupid she is and that he would like to lock her in the room and never let her out...what she did was dangerous.
There are dragons in this book. It's Post-Apocalyptic America. It's an ok read. It's not bad."

- Some spoilers ahead. Not many though.
Logan, Logan, Logan. Mmmmm... One of my YA crushes, Logan is fiercer and even more badass in this one. He and Rachel kind of switch spots for a bit because Rachel loses herself a lot in the second one, whereas Logan has a bit more emotional turmoil in this one. He's kind of lost, a feeling triggered by finding out more about who he was and the people that have always seemed to care for him. Not to mention he's still feeling guilty over the people lost in the chaos of the second book, Deception. And on top of that, his concern for Rachel kind of makes him a distracted mess. (view spoiler) Damn, that boy gets the crap beat out of him and he still comes out on top. I'm still loving that fact that throughout it all, Logan is still ridiculously smart, strong, and a great leader. Although, I was kind of expecting him to take charge near the end a bit more. Not necessarily over the city-state but get involved with Lankenshire or the others a little bit more.
Rachel did a lot of thinking back in this one and her point of view was very...quotable. I'll probably find some to favorite later. I love that she's such a fierce heroine. I love that some of her emotional stress is resolved in this one as she lets her grief win over the silence she steeled within herself in the second one. I love that she maintains hope despite all the wrong doings against her and can manage to work her way out of bad situations throughout most of the series.
Ooh, Ian. Like the characters, I still share a love-hate relationship with you. Frankie got to play a little bit more in this one. I love that he started out kind of anti-Tree People and then is hugging Willow by the end of it. I love that everyone has new romance blossoming - Willow/Adam, Quinn/Nola, Smithson/Nola, etc. In the dark times, everybody needs a friend and I'm glad to see everyone is just coming together when it's needed most.
And that ending! Oooh, so sweet. I love that Logan is Logan and not listening because he's so worried about tech. And I love that Rachel is like, "I know how to get your attention." And I love that (view spoiler)
I thought the battle ending was a bit rushed but I enjoyed it all the same. I guess I was just expecting the revenge to be a bit sweeter. But after all that bloodshed, I'm guessing they didn't need it to be anymore than it already was.
Recommended for everyone! I'm sad to see this series go, really I am. CJ Redwine has built such a wonderful world with such beautiful, well-rounded characters. This is a series I'd read again and again, as I already have. - I would probably give the story 4 stars... except the *Sentiment is Too Thick*. It sometimes lasts an entire Chapter, before it gets back to the story. I'm not against feelings, grief, or romance at all, but honestly I'm not interested in going over how in love you feel or upset you feel as a character, if you keep re-hashing the same things Over and Over and Over at the expense of the story. Less is so much more. That is all. The story was pretty good... whenever the author got around to sharing it.

There are dragons in this book. It's Post-Apocalyptic America. It's an ok read. It's not bad. - Epic. I ADORED each and every second of this entire series. The characters were FANTASTIC and oh why can't they be real?! I would love to add Rachel or Logan or Willow or Quinn or any of a number more of them to my friend list. I can't tell you how wonderful this series was, you just need to read for yourself. The writing was phenomenal, the scenery and all of the imagery; I felt like I was there the whole time. In the final book of the Courier's Daughter series, Logan and Rachel are separated for almost the entire book. One is awaiting trial and one is kidnapped. Will they be able to defeat the Commander and the Cursed One, a.k.a. tanniyn in time to save their land and their friends? What a finale! Loved every second. Thank you C.J. )
